Bravado and Primary Wave Music together announce the release of a limited-edition t-shirt commemorating the 60th anniversary of the legendary moment when James Brown and The Rolling Stones first met and shared the stage at The T.A.M.I. Show.
LONDON and NEW YORK, July 10, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In celebration of one of the most defining moments in rock and soul music history, Bravado, the world's leading artist merchandise and lifestyle company, and Primary Wave Music, the leading independent publisher of iconic and legendary music in the world (and steward of the James Brown estate), together announce the release of a limited-edition t-shirt commemorating the 60th anniversary of the legendary moment when James Brown and The Rolling Stones first met and shared the stage at The T.A.M.I. Show.
The exclusive t-shirt, featuring black and white images of James Brown and Mick Jagger set against a red backdrop with retro typography, is available in black or white at RS No.9 Carnaby (The Rolling Stones' flagship retail store in London), online at , and via the official .
"Playing The T.A.M.I. Show was a real turning point for us," said Mick Jagger. "Watching James Brown perform up close was unforgettable. His energy and the way he owned the stage set the bar for live performances that night and beyond for us."
The T.A.M.I. Show (Teenage Awards Music International) presented a dozen rock and roll, soul, and R&B performers, both established artists and rising stars. It was filmed over two nights at the Santa Monica Civic Center in California in October 1964 and later released as a concert film, which was shown in cinemas and then on television in 1965. This concert marked the first time The Rolling Stones and James Brown shared a bill, with The Stones having the unenviable task of taking the stage immediately after Brown's electrifying set. Brown's jaw-dropping act, complete with his signature "cape routine" during "Please, Please, Please," showcased his full stage mastery and set a new standard for showmanship, leaving the Stones stunned and inspired as they followed him on stage to deliver their own blistering performance to close out the show. Both artists have described their T.A.M.I. Show sets as defining moments on their paths to superstardom.
The T.A.M.I. Show represented a cultural convergence of rock and roll, soul, and R&B, with a nearly equal number of Black and white artists sharing the bill. This was no small feat at that time, as the show took place during the height of the civil rights movement. The concert film introduced R&B and soul artists like James Brown, Marvin Gaye, the Supremes, Chuck Berry, and others to white rock and roll audiences, giving them screentime alongside The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and others.
"The T.A.M.I. Show brought together music fans at a time when genre and race often divided artists and audiences," said Bravado President Matt Young. "This collaboration between the James Brown and Rolling Stones teams is a tribute to that iconic night and a celebration of the impact their early performances there had on music, fashion, and culture."
"As we, Primary Wave Music, continue to develop fresh and thoughtful ways to celebrate our iconic artists, this collaboration marks a powerful and historic milestone in music history. It serves as a moment to both honor James Brown's legacy for longtime fans and reintroduce his groundbreaking influence, while also highlighting The Rolling Stones' early connection to that legacy for new generations," says Rob Dippold, Partner & President of Digital Strategy for Primary Wave Music. "We hope this apparel collaboration drop will spark curiosity, celebrate the impact of this iconic night, and encourage fans to rediscover one of the most legendary moments in music history."
In the six decades since that unforgettable concert, the connection between James Brown and The Rolling Stones has endured, most notably through Mick Jagger's continued efforts to preserve and amplify Brown's legacy. In the past ten years, Jagger has served as Producer and Executive Producer on multiple film and documentary projects about Brown, including the A&E docuseries Say It Loud.
"He [James] was a brilliant performer who inspired me from the beginning and was deeply committed to the civil rights movement," said Jagger. "I've always admired James and learned so much from him."
This commemorative merch drop is a tribute to a moment that changed music history. With only limited quantities available, this celebration of two legendary artists is a must-have for music fans and collectors alike.
